60 years of igus … 6.000 kilometers …

Founded on October 15, 1964 in a garage in Cologne-Mülheim, igus has been keeping the world moving with its lubrication-free high-performance plastics. In cars, crane systems, furniture, machine tools and robots, they are now used successfully everywhere – even in bicycles. With the igus:bike, we have developed a unique urban bike made from recycled plastic. The bike stands for many of our product advantages: 

No rust, no lubrication needed, it´s virtually maintenance-free. 

On October 15, 2024 we turned 60. And this was the big day: We kicked off our tour over the world and sending the igus:bike on a very special journey. A total of 6.000 kilometers in the next 12 months. Touring different stages through major cities, along rivers and beaches and visiting several customers applications.

Each part of the tour will tell stories about the use of our products and how igus improves what moves at our customers. Many of our products are the result of very close relationships with our customers, we are fascinated by the numerous stunning applications of our parts in machines. The bicycle

The igus:bike was first presented at the Hanover exhibition in 2022: a bicycle made of over 90% plastic, 50% of which is recycled plastic. Thanks to many innovations, the urban bike is rust-, lubrication- and maintenance-free. Renamed RCYL in 2024.
