Alpe d’Huez – The igus:bike Takes on a Legendary Climb
Michael Poepke | 16. June 2025
Tuesday was all about climbing – and not just a little! For Stage 8, we headed into the heights of Isère for a day that was as technical as it was iconic: a customer visit, a mountain dam, and the legendary ascent of Alpe d’Huez.
From Industry to the Mountains – A Stop at STP
The day kicked off at 9:30 a.m. with a visit to our customer STP, specialists in technical solutions for industry. A great conversation gave us insight into their challenges and how lubrication-free materials are becoming a bigger part of their daily operations.
The igus:bike fit right in – a real-world example of high-tech in action.

Mountain Break and a Dam Detour
On the way up into the mountains, we took a well-earned break at a cozy little inn in Allemond. A perfect spot to refuel before the big climb.

But not without a quick detour to the Oz dam – an impressive piece of engineering that reminds you the mountains aren’t just about nature, but innovation too. A great place to put the bike to the test on steeper terrain.

Alpe d’Huez: 21 Legendary Turns
Then came the highlight of the day: the Alpe d’Huez and its 21 switchbacks. Legendary. Iconic. Intimidating.

Before tackling the descent, we grabbed a photo at the top – right by the podium where cycling legends have raised their arms in victory.
And then… down we went.

These famous curves, made legendary by the Tour de France, have seen the best cyclists in the world – and now, the igus:bike.
Despite the steep grade, tight turns, and gravity doing its thing, the descent was smooth and steady. Once again, the bike proved its toughness, smooth ride, and – most importantly – comfort. A real-world test on one of cycling’s most famous roads.
A Powerful Symbol for the igus:bike
Climbing Alpe d’Huez isn’t just a physical challenge – it’s a statement of reliability.
