Sunrise to Starlight: Cycling Through Chennai’s Most Stunning Sights
Rakshith Rao | 12. February 2025
Chennai—a city where the old and the new exist in perfect harmony. Where tradition breathes through ancient temples, and modernity shines in towering skyscrapers. Our cycling adventure through this vibrant city was nothing short of magical as we explored Chennai’s scenic roads, historic landmarks, and bustling streets.
A Spiritual Start at Kapaleeshwarar Temple
Our rider, Jai, began with an early morning ride at 6 am to Kapaleeshwarar Temple, one of the most iconic temples in Chennai. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Its Dravidian-style intricate architecture and towering gopuram symbolise the deep-rooted cultural heritage of Chennai.
Along with this spiritual essence, the cool morning air and the quiet streets made for a perfect cycling experience for us.

A Ride Along Marina Beach
Next, we pedalled towards Marina Beach, the second-longest urban beach in the world. The road along the coastline was breathtaking—cool sea breeze, golden sands, and the sound of waves crashing against the shore.
People were out for their morning walks, joggers passed by, and the aroma of freshly brewed filter coffee filled the air. We stopped for a while, enjoying the peaceful sight of the endless blue sea — a ride along the Marina Beach will stay with us forever.

Innovation Meets Tradition at TI Cycles
Chennai is not just about history and culture— it is also a hub of innovation. We visited TI Cycles of India, a name familiar to every Indian who has ever owned a bicycle. The makers of BSA and Hercules cycles, this company has shaped India’s cycling journey since 1949.
The team was amazed by the Igus:bike, appreciating its maintenance-free design and the future of mobility. Mr. Ramachandran (AGM Design) applauded the innovation, and we also showcased our solutions at their TI Clean Mobility campus through an in-house exhibition.

A Ride Through Chennai’s Nightscape
As the sun set, Chennai transformed into a glowing wonderland. The roads lit up, and we cycled through some of the city’s most famous landmarks. We crossed the beautifully illuminated Napier Bridge and passed by a grand monument celebrating 75 years of Indian Independence.
Our final stop was the Chennai Central Railway Station. This Gothic and Romanesque architecture was built in 1873. It was a perfect destination to end our day.

A Ride to Remember
Cycling through Chennai was an unforgettable experience. The city’s rich culture and scenic beauty made this ride a memory to cherish forever.
Chennai, you were absolutely amazing—we will be back with more rides and more stories. Stay tuned.
