Stage 2: Solar energy amidst the Northern Mountains

Michael Poepke | 25. July 2025

We begin our second day of the Igus:bike world tour in Hungary with visiting one of our customers in the scenic region of Miskolc. This is the company called Green Plan Energy Kft. They are designing, manufacturing and installing solar power plants.

They have a new design which is a Solar Tracker unit which their customers require more-and-more. The design is entirely made by Green Plan and for the solar tracker movement it uses special sliding bearings made by igus.

The customer tested many other solutions too but the igus part stood out with its spectacularly long service life. This is exactly why they chose our material for the job. During the designing phase it was a great help that igus could offer 3D printing materials too, so for the first few iterations the customer could easily test and modify the designed sliding part.

Scenic cycling to Lillafüred

After being inspired by the great solar trackers of Green Plan Energy Kft. we took to the road and cycled amidst the Northern Mountains to the nearby small resort town of Lillafüred.

This is one of Hungary’s hidden gems. We wandered around the grandiose building of the Hotel Palace, ridden through its many small hanging gardens, checked out the Anna-waterfall and of course cycled around the Lake Hámori, which is a beautiful little boating lake nearby.

The majestic hotel building was built in the 1920s according to the plans of Kálmán Lux in the neo-renessaince style. When it was built the owners also gave funds to build a mini train to the nearby town of Miskolc so that the guests can reach to hotel more easily. Apart from being a really nice hotel it gives place to many conferences and congresses even today.

After all this riding we turnd hungry so we settled down and tried one of the local specialities: grilled freshly cought trouts from the local trout ponds. These trout breeding ponds are built so that they recieve fresh water from the local river the Szinva. You can choose the right trout for you, the personnal will catch it for you and they grill it for you on the spot. It is really tasty and healthy!

This marked the end of our second day of the igus:bike worldtour in Hungary, but the Hungarian tour is far from over, follow us for the rest of the sights!

Our riders:

Peter Kasza

Hello I’m Peter Kasza from Hungary. I have been working for Igus since more then 3 years as the Drytech Outside Sales representative for Eastern-Hungary. I like how I meet many types of people and applications throughout my job and I like to make connections with the customers and solving their issues, this feels really rewarding for me.

As for my hobbies outside of Igus I like to work around my small farm in the countryside. I keep animals, raise chickens and ducks. I even built an automated chicken coop using Igus Drylin parts. I also do beekeeping  as a serious hobby. I have more then five bee families who make several dozens of kilograms of honey each season.

Adrián Vasvári

I am Adrian Vasvári from Hungary and I have been working for Igus since 2013 as the Outside Sales representative for Eastern-Hungary responsible for E-chains and Chainflex products. These products go well with me since I have studied electrical engineering during university. It is great to see how many machines and applications use our products across the whole country. But we are aspiring to make that number even bigger.

As for my hobbies I like to go running in the afternoons, I do this a few times almost every week. Recently I picked up sharpshooting as a sport hobby and I really like it so far. I have not gone to any tournaments yet, but I am planning to go on one soon.
