Stage 5: The igus:bike on the traces of William Tell
Ramona Senoner | 9. July 2025
Our final day of the tour begins in Lucerne. It’s quite cloudy as we drive towards Küssnacht. Once we arrive, we visit the Hohle Gasse. This place is closely linked to the legend of William Tell. He is the central figure in one of the best-known Swiss national legends and a symbol of resistance to tyranny and Swiss independence. According to the legend, William Tell shot bailiff Gessler in the Hohle Gasse with his crossbow. Today, the Hohle Gasse is a popular destination for hikers and history enthusiasts keen to learn more about this legendary moment in Swiss history.

We head to the cable car station that connects Küssnacht with the Seebodenalp, a terrace on Mount Rigi, located 1’030 metres above sea level. The cable car took us comfortably to the top, where a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains and Lake Lucerne awaited us. Seebodenalp is a true natural paradise offering numerous hiking trails and recreational opportunities.
For lunch, we had two traditional Swiss dishes: Älplermagronen and, of course, Rösti, a national dish consisting of grated potatoes. Did you know? The term ‘Röstigraben’ is used to describe the cultural and linguistic divide between the German-speaking and French-speaking regions of Switzerland.

After our lunch break, during which we look back on the tour, we cycle down the mountain. The descent was an adventure in itself, with varied trails and marvellous views. It’s time to say goodbye now to the igus:bike. We really enjoyed this tour and are looking forward to further adventures of the igus:bike in Austria!
