MOIN, MOIN from Hamburg
adematos | 30. October 2024
Yesterday we said MOIN, MOIN from a slightly rainy Hamburg (how could it be otherwise 😉). We started our 8th stage at Eurogate Container Harbour. The first person our ‘replacement team’ meets is Uwe Radke, Head of Department Electrical Engineering at Waltershofer Damm. There, our igus® Mobile Shore Power Outlet provides the shore power connection for container ships. The system is a self-propelled socket that is located at the berth and installed on the quay above the fender system. With the help of the iMSPO, ships can berth flexibly at the harbour and be supplied with electricity from shore without the use of diesel engines. This solution makes harbours around the world more sustainable.
After an 8 km journey, we boarded a ferry at Bubendeyufer and crossed the river Elbe. Once on the other side, we head to the fish market. Here our team spent a short lunch break with fish & chips.
Freshly energised, they were on the road again, heading to the Reeperbahn. It is the most famous street in Hamburg, especially for its lively nightlife and diverse entertainment options. We had to stop briefly on the Reeperbahn because a German radio station called and wanted to report live from the tour. After 15 minutes, the team continued. They crossed the Beatles Platz, where you can see silhouette sculptures of the five Beatles musicians who started their careers in Hamburg.
From the Reeperbahn, we headed across the Landungsbrücken to the Elbe Philharmonic Hall. One of the most impressive concert halls in the world. The tour then continued to the beautiful City of Warehouses. The goods from ships from all over the world were stored in the old brick warehouses. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Then we went to Hamburg City Hall and the Jungfernstieg. Here we had a great view of the Binnenalster. We crossed the Lombards bridge to the Outer Alster, where this stage ended.
Our rider: Alexa Heinzelmann
My name is Alexa and I lead the International Marketing team here at the igus headquarters in Cologne. My working days over the last few weeks have consisted of coordinating the kick-off and the igus:bike tour to celebrate igus’ 60th birthday. So I’m all the more pleased that I can get on the bike myself today. And all this in Hamburg – this is where I lived for 5 years and where I started my professional career.
