Stage 9: From Imperial Gardens to Urban Innovation at MOTIC Logistic Solutions
Michael Poepke | 22. July 2025
As the igus:bike Tour Austria nears its end, Stage 9 begins under grey skies, with a light drizzle falling over the iconic grounds of Schönbrunn Palace. But neither rain nor history can slow this ride. Liman Muslii, Technical Sales Representative for bearings and linear technology, and Annalena Böckl, Digital Marketing Manager for igus Austria, set off together — tracing a path from Austria’s imperial heritage to the forward-thinking logistics of MOTIC.
With every pedal stroke, the igus:bike proves its strength: low-maintenance, smooth, and ready for any weather.
A Royal Departure: Schönbrunn Palace
Despite the rain, the grandeur of Schönbrunn Palace remains undiminished. With over 1,400 rooms and centuries of history behind its walls, the UNESCO World Heritage Site once served as the summer residence of the powerful Habsburg family. Today, it sets the stage for a different kind of journey — one where clean motion and elegant engineering take center stage.
Echoes of Empire: Ehrenhof Fountains from the Habsburg Era
At the palace’s main courtyard, the Ehrenhof Fountains stand as silent witnesses to Habsburg opulence. Their perfect symmetry and classical design reflect a time of grandeur and precision — values that live on in the igus:bike. Where once royalty moved through stone archways, now a high-tech bike glides by — frictionless, oil-free, and as carefully crafted as any imperial detail.
Baroque Meets Modern: Schönbrunn Palace Theater
A few turns of the wheel away lies the Schönbrunn Palace Theater — opened in 1747 and still in use today. Once echoing with the music of Mozart, it remains a cultural gem, where history and creativity meet. Just like the theater blends tradition with performance, the igus:bike marries classic cycling form with modern material innovation.
A Garden of Wonders: Gloriette, Zoo & Palm House
The palace gardens stretch out in all directions — a meticulously designed landscape of fountains, paths, and playful detours. From the palm-filled greenhouses to the oldest zoo in the world, from the geometric maze to the Gloriette high above, the terrain is diverse and inspiring. For Liman and Annalena, it’s the perfect proving ground: wet, varied, and beautifully suited for the weather-resistant, maintenance-free ride that igus® technology enables.
Sound & Structure: University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna
As we continue our ride, we pass the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna — one of the oldest and most prestigious music academies in the world. Behind its refined façade, generations of artists have studied composition, performance, and the mechanics of movement in sound.
City Pulse: Riding Through Mariahilfer Straße
Leaving the royal grounds, the route dives into Vienna’s urban energy along Mariahilfer Straße. One of the city’s liveliest shopping streets, it’s a real-world mobility test — busy, unpredictable, and full of motion. Yet the igus:bike handles it all with poise, navigating crowds and curbs in silence, a clean and composed companion to the city’s constant rhythm.
Smart City Solutions: MOTIC Logistic Solutions
The final destination of the day is MOTIC Logistic Solutions, a Vienna-based company redefining urban delivery through electric cargo bikes. Liman arrives to discuss how igus® plain bearings support MOTIC’s clean, rugged transport systems — enabling reliable movement through dense city environments, without the need for oil, grease, or constant upkeep.
It’s a meeting of minds: sustainable engineering, applied in real-world logistics. For both MOTIC and igus®, motion isn’t just about speed — it’s about simplicity, durability, and making cities more livable.
Conclusion: From Rain-Soaked Royals to Rolling Innovation
Stage 9 blends imperial history with modern purpose. From Schönbrunn’s rain-drenched stones to the high-tech streets of Vienna, this ride shows how far clean, silent mobility has come. The igus:bike doesn’t just withstand the elements — it embraces them. It turns palaces into pathways and city streets into sustainable highways.
One stage remains. But the future? Already in motion.
