Annecy to Grenoble – Lakes, Mountains, and Breathtaking Views

Michael Poepke | 15. June 2025

Monday brought a fresh start for the igus:bike in one of France’s most stunning regions: Haute-Savoie and Isère. On the agenda: kilometers of jaw-dropping scenery, a deep dive into local culture, and of course, a front-row seat to sustainable mobility in action.

Starting in Annecy: A must-snap moment in front of Mavic

The day kicked off with a symbolic stop in front of Mavic HQ – a legendary name in the cycling world. The perfect backdrop to snap a photo of the igus:bike before taking on a sporty little challenge: a full loop around Lake Annecy, roughly 40 km.

Annecy, the “Little Venice of the Alps”

We took a break to wander through Annecy’s charming old town, often called the “Venice of the Alps.” With its canals, colorful markets, and laid-back vibe, it’s a place where history and modern life blend beautifully. The igus:bike fit right in – and even turned a few heads. Proof that sustainable mobility gets noticed, even in tourist hotspots.

Fun fact: When the igus:bike meets… Pokémon!

A quirky moment during the day: right in front of Annecy’s old prison – now one of the city’s most photographed landmarks – we snapped a pic of the igus:bike in the exact same spot featured in a scene from the Pokémon anime! A fun coincidence for fans, and a reminder that this one-of-a-kind bike has a knack for showing up in unexpected places.

Next stop: Grenoble – cable cars and epic views

After that scenic detour, we headed to Grenoble, famous for its mountain setting. First up: a ride on the cable car to the Bastille, an old fortress perched high above the city. The view from the top? Absolutely stunning – a full 360° panorama of the surrounding Alps. A picture-perfect setting to showcase the innovation and eco-conscious spirit behind the igus:bike.

Grenoble: Where history meets modern life

Back down in the city, the igus:bike cruised through Place Grenette, the lively heart of Grenoble. Then it was on to Place Saint-André and the Saint-Laurent footbridge – a spot where sleek design meets local heritage. The perfect place for a photo break and a moment to reflect on how innovation and tradition can go hand in hand.

And to wrap it all up? A well-earned drink and a bit of downtime to recharge.

Next up: Mont Ventoux!
