Stage 5: igus:bike in Legnica – from Wrocław to the heart of Lower Silesia

Paulina Szczepanska | 14. August 2025

After an intense stage in Wrocław, we continue through Lower Silesia. A few dozen kilometers west awaits Legnica – a city rich in history, character, and unique places that perfectly fit the spirit of our bike tour.

Polish technology at a global level

Before heading into the city center, we visit Stigal – a Polish manufacturer of CNC machines for cutting sheets, pipes, and profiles. Since 2006, their team in Złotniki near Legnica has been designing and producing machines that serve clients both in Poland and abroad.

Their machines also use igus components – lubrication-free, durable, and resistant to harsh conditions, ensuring longer lifespan, lower maintenance costs, and precise operation even under heavy loads. It’s a combination of local innovation and global quality.

Legnica – history within reach of your pedals

After visiting Stigal, we hop on the igus:bike and head into Legnica – a city known for its copper tradition but, above all, for its landmarks worth seeing up close.

A cathedral reaching for the sky

The first stop is the Cathedral of St. Apostles Peter and Paul – a 13th-century Gothic church with soaring towers that dominate the city skyline. Its interior dazzles with stained glass and intricate details, and for centuries, the cathedral has been one of Lower Silesia’s most important sacred sites.

The market where the city’s heart beats

From the cathedral, we pedal a few minutes to the Old Town Market Square – the lively heart of Legnica. The town hall with its iconic tower, charming historic houses, and the fountain create the atmosphere of a place where history meets everyday life. Residents and visitors stop here for coffee, and in summer, concerts and outdoor events bring the square to life.

A castle with a medieval soul

To finish the stage, we visit the Piast Castle – the former residence of the Dukes of Legnica-Brzeg and one of the oldest castles in Poland. Its massive walls and towers recall medieval battles, while today it houses cultural and educational institutions.

A walk around the castle courtyard is like a journey back in time – and a perfect spot for a keepsake photo from the tour.

A short stage, big impressions

The stage may be short, but it’s full of contrasts – from modern technology at Stigal to the rich history and architecture of Legnica. This is Lower Silesia in the rhythm of the igus:bike.

Off the clock, he pursues his passions: sports, especially speedway and football, and DIY projects in his home workshop. Privately, he is a happy husband to Klaudia and father of two little explorers – Karol and Pola. Today, he sets off on the Wrocław stage of the igus:bike tour, combining his sporting spirit with a deep love for the city he knows like the back of his hand.
