Pedaling Through The ‘City of Dreams’: The Last Lap in Mumbai

Rakshith Rao | 22. February 2025

Countless miles, unforgettable encounters, stunning scenic beauty and witnessing the rich history of India—our igus:bike tour has been nothing short of extraordinary. And now, on our final day, we have come to Mumbai, the ‘City of Dreams’—always vibrating with energy and history.

The last lap of the India tour was all about riding to three iconic landmarks of Mumbai—the iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel,  the majestic Gateway of India and the serene Marine Drive.

The Taj Mahal Palace: Where Heritage Meets Luxury

Our first stop for the day was at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. This iconic hotel was built in 1903 by Jamsetji Tata. The design beautifully blends Indian, European, and Islamic styles with grand domes, graceful arches, and intricate details that echo tales of a glorious past.

As you step inside, you will experience world-class dining and warm hospitality— a true reflection of India’s rich culture and architectural brilliance.

Gateway of India: A Structural Marvel

A short ride later, we reached the majestic Gateway of India. Built in 1924 to honour King George V’s visit to India, this grand arch stands as a reminder of Mumbai’s colonial past and its journey into a vibrant, modern city.

What an unforgettable experience we had here— a story we will cherish and share for years to come.

Marine Drive: The Queen’s Necklace

As the wheels of our bikes hit Marine Drive, we saw the sun glistening on the waves, and heard the rhythmic sound of the ocean waves. This is a 3.5-kilometer-long promenade, aptly named the Queen’s Necklace—there is something incredibly freeing about pedalling along this serene stretch, the vast Arabian Sea stretching out beside us.

As the sun sets, the twinkling streetlights transform Marine Drive into a dazzling spectacle. Vendors call out, offering steaming cups of chai (tea) and crispy bhel puri (a tasty snack made of puffed rice)— their enticing aromas were difficult to resist.

This was a perfect ending to our India tour—it feels like we belong here, part of this pulsating heartbeat of Mumbai.

An experience beyond words- And That’s a Wrap!

We began this igus:bike tour filled with excitement and curiosity. Today, we ride away with hearts brimming with stories, cameras loaded with snapshots of a lifetime, and a promise to return.

Every road travelled, every smile exchanged, and every excitement shared has added another beautiful stroke to the canvas of the #igusbikeworldtour in our incredible India.

As we pedal away from the Gateway of India, Mumbai doesn’t say goodbye—it simply whispers, “Phir Milenge” (until we meet again).

Where’s the bike going next? Stay tuned. We will be back soon.
