Stage 2: Barcelona — the city of Gaudí

Gaudí, “Pantumaca”, human towers… Does this give you a clue? Exactly! Today we pedaled through the city of Barcelona on our igus:bike and visited some of its most iconic spots. Are you coming with us?

We kicked off our ride at the top of Park Güell, a magical place where Gaudí let his imagination run wild—giant lizards, wavy benches, colorful mosaics, all nestled among green trees. Next up, we headed to another modernist masterpiece: the Sagrada Família, the never-ending construction site… But good things take time, right? Every tower, stone, and detail in this temple tells a story, and we absolutely love that! ❤️

Then we let the gentle slope of Avinguda Diagonal carried us down to Torre Glòries, a building that does not precisely stand out for its beauty, but thanks to its 125 m, it offers wonderful 360º views of the city.

We leaved behind modern buildings to a more classical one: the Arc de Triomf. Although crossing the arch underneath it is quite an experience, the special thing about this monument is not the building itself, but the atmosphere around it, with people always playing music, covering the sky with floating bubbles or even taking pictures with an eye-catching orange bicycle! 😉

We kept rolling downhill through the Parc de la Ciutadella until we reach the seafront promenade, winding through the crowd to the famous sail-shaped hotel: a perfect spot for a seaside posing.

We popped by Elisava School of Design and Engineering, totally wowed by the students’ designs and prototypes. And what better place than Plaça Reial, where the palm trees, modernist lamps, and buzzing terraces create the perfect environment for a mini-break.

Back on the saddle, we headed up Las Ramblas and passed by the Gran Teatre del Liceu and then contiued to the Gothic Quarter until we reach the Mural del Petó, where love and art come together in a giant mosaic made of thousands of tiny photos forming one big smooch. Definitely a must-stop for the selfie addicts.

Then we arrived in Plaça de Catalunya, the city’s beating heart— famous for being the centre of the city, but feared by the inhabitants of barcelona for its pigeon population (no exaggeration, there are a LOT of pigeons).

We wrapped up our ride at Passeig de Gràcia, visiting its two most famous architectural stars: Casa Batlló and La Pedrera, Gaudí creations that combine stone, iron and pure imagination in a unique way that makes it impossible to take your eyes off them. And that’s all for today!

“Hi! I’m Albert. I’ve been working in Digital Marketing at igus for more than 13 years now. I’m originally from Lleida, but I’ve spent almost half my life living in Barcelona.
I love travelling and staying active, running is my thing, whether on the road or out on the trails. And of course, I love cycling. It’s how I get around every day! So, when I got the chance to become a rider for the igus:bike, I didn’t think twice.”
