Bergamo, a city with two souls: the Upper and the Lower Town.
Diego Ghislandi | 20. June 2025
Once again, the day begins with a visit to one of our customers – the heart and true main charachter of our adventure. Today we’re in EFI Reggiani, with over 75 years of experience the group designs and manufactures high-quality printing machinery. In Italy, Reggiani Macchine is specialized in the production of digital and analog textile printers for all kinds of applications: fashion, home textiles, sportswear and visual communication. Luca Amboni and Daniele Merizio invite us in their extensive show room and explain us how innovation, quality and sustainability drive every development, helping reduce consumption and environmental impact.

After the interview, we directly move to Bergamo and from Città Bassa – Bergamo’s Lower Town – we already catch a glimpse of our next stop and the true heart of the city: Città Alta (Upper Town).

As we enter the old town, Marie – our second rider of the day – immediately understands that the blazing sun and the old cobblestones will be the real challenges of the day… But the atmosphere is relaxed and we walk and ride along the walls, soak in the views, and lose ourselves among the details of the old town. After a few kilometers through alleyways and panoramas, it’s the perfect time for a lunch in Città Alta, with local flavors and some well-deserved relaxation.

In the afternoon, it’s time to climb even higher: we take the funicular to San Vigilio, then pedal a short distance to reach the most scenic point of the day. From up here, Bergamo looks like a postcard – red rooftops, blue skies, green hills, and the Bergamo valleys appearing in the distance.

It’s already late in the afternoon when we finally reach the last destination on today’s itinerary. After a long slope under the sun, here stands the Monastery of Astino, surrounded by greenery and peace. A quiet place, perfect for slowing down and recharging before setting off toward the next stop of our igus:bike tour.
