Stage 2: Visit to HMF in Højbjerg

Michael Poepke | 30. August 2025

On the second stage of the Danish igus:bike Tour, Mads Johansen, Key Account Manager at igus Denmark, takes his bike to Højbjerg near Aarhus. Here we visit one of our long-standing customers, HMF Group, which has been one of the leading manufacturers of truck cranes since 1952.

For more than 70 years, HMF has focused on developing cranes that combine strength, compact design, and user-friendliness – characteristics that have made the company a strong player both in Denmark and internationally.

In collaboration with HMF, igus supplies energy chains for the cranes. The chains are designed to be strong, lubrication-free, and durable, ensuring that the cranes can operate smoothly even in demanding environments. The reliability of the components is crucial for HMF’s products, where high uptime and minimal maintenance are a must.

For HMF, the collaboration with igus is not only about the quality of the products, but also about delivery reliability. When components are delivered on time, bottlenecks in production are avoided – something HMF highlights as an important part of the partnership.

The stage at HMF shows once again how the igus:bike Tour is not just about presenting a bicycle made from recycled plastic, but also about highlighting the relationships and collaborations that drive innovation and industry forward in Denmark.

Our rider:

Mads Johansen

Mads Johansen joined igus in January 2025 as a Technical Sales Consultant with a focus on outside sales, shore power, and offshore solutions. In his role as Key Account Manager, he is dedicated to building strong customer relationships and creating value by aligning igus’ innovative products with the demanding requirements of the energy and maritime industries.

With a hands-on approach and a genuine interest in his customers’ challenges, Mads thrives on finding solutions that improve reliability, reduce downtime, and support the transition to greener technologies. His work embodies the igus spirit: combining technical expertise with a commitment to long-term partnerships.

As part of the igus:bike tour in Denmark, Mads also takes the bike to visit two of our valued customers: HMF in Højbjerg and PowerCon in Hobro, highlighting how igus products contribute to robust crane technology and sustainable shore power solutions. For him, riding the igus:bike is more than a symbolic gesture – it’s a way to connect innovation, sustainability, and customer collaboration on the road.

Outside of work, Mads is the proud father of two, living together with his partner. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, and whenever possible, you’ll find him on his mountain bike exploring trails, or on the slopes skiing. For Mads, being active in nature provides the perfect balance to his professional life.
