Picturesque ride to “Florence on the Elbe”
spappers | 25. October 2024
On Thursday, the weather god was on our side once again: 12°C, no clouds and bright sunshine. A perfect autumn day, which our team starts off in Schmölln-Putzkau. Here, they meet our colleague Markus Oppe, sales manager for the region at igus. Together, they visit our customer Fiedler Maschinenbau und Technikvertrieb GmbH.
The company develops and builds cleaning vehicles that keep city centers worldwide clean by using water jets. To ensure that the technology installed does not corrode, Fiedler relies on lubrication- and maintenance-free drylin W linear guides from igus in the front welding beam structures. The cleaning vehicles do not only impress our bike team but have also won over the jury of the manus award by igus, which honors innovative and creative plain-bearing applications. As a result, Fiedler was the winner of the bronze manus award 2023!
After saying their goodbyes, our cyclist Max Burger and the team made their way to the Elbe cycle path in Pirna. From there, they started the bike route along the Elbe River, enjoying a picturesque landscape with green meadows, trees with colorful leaves and historic bridges.
After 21 km they reached their destination: “Florence on the Elbe”. A nickname for Dresden, the capital city of the state of Saxony, which it has received due to its Baroque-style architecture and numerous world-renowned museums and art collections as well as the pleasant location and mild climate on the Elbe. Finally, our team let the day end with a quick sightseeing tour of Dresden: From the Frauenkirche and the Semperoper to the Zwinger, a palatial complex with gardens.
Our rider: Max Burger
I am Max Burger, 21 years old and from Neunkirchen-Seelscheid, a small village near Cologne. I have been working as an apprentice in the marketing department at igus since September 2023. During my apprenticeship, I helped with various events at igus. The latest project I supported is this bike tour around the world and I am excited to now be a part of it. I look forward to testing the bike on my part of the tour!
