The early bird catches the sunrise

The team of stage 3 kicked off their day early, starting the tour just before sunrise at 6:00 AM on the 153-meter-high Halde Hoheward. With a stunning view of the Ruhr area, cyclist Johannes Erdinger (International PR Manager at igus GmbH) sped downhill along the Rhine-Herne Canal towards an exciting e-chain application. After approximately 12 kilometers, they arrived at the Veltins-Arena.

To ensure a consistent growth of the turf at the Veltins-Arena, RHENAC GreenTec AG installed a movable lighting system that can navigate across the field. igus energy chains ensure reliable guidance and protection of the cables that control the retractable pitch. The chains withstand outdoor conditions and high loads while keeping the cables free of damage or tangling, enabling smooth and efficient movement of the entire playing surface. This technology not only improves the durability of the pitch but also helps reduce maintenance costs and downtime.

From there, the path led to ‘Zeche Zollverein.’ After 24 kilometers, the team arrived at their destination. With the sun shining, they ended the day with a well-deserved local favorite: Currywurst.

Our rider: Johannes Erdinger

I’m Johannes and I’ve been part of the International Marketing team at igus for a year now. I’m delighted to be involved not only in the planning, but also as a driver on the tour.
