What influence does UV radiation have on the plain bearings?

UV radiation adversely affects the mechanical strength of the plastic – depending on the the intensity of the radiation and how long the plastic is exposed to it. This question often arises in connection with outdoor use and the sunshine associate with such use. As plain bearings only have very little contact with sunshine once they have been installed, however, the exposure to sunshine and UV radiation is rarely enough to affect the structure of the plain bearing to any noteworthy extent. Corresponding tests in weathering apparatus in the igus test laboratory have shown that the performance of the plain bearings is not affected by this.
