Coast to Coast: Recapping the igus:bike’s Epic U.S. Adventure!

What an incredible ride! After a months-long trip on the road, the U.S. leg of the igus:bike world tour has officially crossed the finish line. From the neon lights of Las Vegas to the historic steps of the nation’s capital, our plastic powerhouse has proven that it’s built for any environment.

Before we ship the bike off to its next international destination, let’s take a look back at the standout moments that made this journey so special!

The tour kicked off with scenic rides through the red-rock views of Colorado and Utah. Along the way, riders Chris Sandven and Philip Pauli stopped to visit igus customers in the bike industry, including QuickrStuff and Triot.

Chris and Philip capped off their first week of riding with a trip to Red Bull Rampage, a major mountain biking event held in Utah! The igus:bike and Chris’ own QuickrStuff bike rack were a hit, drawing a crowd of curious onlookers at the venue.

Next up, the tour headed south to Nevada. In Las Vegas, our riders had a chance encounter with a larger-than-life Elvis impersonator who was ready to trade his blue suede shoes for some polymer pedals!

Once they hit California, the highlights kept coming:

  • The Hollywood Debut: The bike held its own on the Walk of Fame, proving it’s a star in its own right.
  • A “Lost Boys” Legend: In Santa Clarita, the team took the bike over the famous bridge from the movie The Lost Boys — thankfully, the only supernatural thing was the bike’s smooth performance!
  • The Venice Beach Coincidence: We ran into an actual igus customer on the boardwalk who recognized the iconic orange color from his work with our e-chains!

The East Coast leg began with a festive flair as Casey Ganshirt took the bike to Cape Cod for Thanksgiving. It was a weekend of scenic rail trails, classic holiday plates, and even a little shark-spotting off the coast of Eastham.

From the chilly Atlantic, the bike headed south to Atlanta, where Maxx Kellner brought it to the world-famous Coca-Cola headquarters. Between tours of the massive facility and stops at the Olympic Rings and MLK Jr. National Historical Park, the bike proved it could handle the Southern heat and the corporate boardroom with equal ease.

In Washington, D.C., the tour took a turn for the historic — and the damp! Stephen Bowman put the igus:bike through a real-world durability test, riding through heavy fog and rain past the Lincoln Memorial and The Castle. While other bikes might worry about rust, our corrosion-resistant bearings didn’t skip a beat.

Finally, the journey came full circle at our U.S. Headquarters in Rhode Island. Four different riders led a victory lap across the campus, visiting:

  • The 257 Ferris building and its iMPS showroom.
  • Our brand-new lead screw production facility.
  • The Greenwood injection molding facility.
  • The historic Robotics Campus, where the igus U.S. story began 40 years ago.

The U.S. tour was a testament to motion plastics and the power of sustainable, maintenance-free engineering. We’ve met incredible customers, explored iconic landmarks, and shared the future of cycling with thousands of curious onlookers.

The bike is now being packed up and prepped for its next big international jump. Check back in soon to find out where we’re heading next!
