U.S. Capital Cruising: The igus:bike Takes on Washington, D.C.!

For Stage 12 of our U.S. tour, the igus:bike pointed its handlebars south once again, landing right in the heart of the nation’s capital: Washington, D.C.! For this star-spangled leg of the journey, we handed the reins to a new member of the igus family—our Heavy Duty Industry Manager for e-chain® Systems, Stephen Bowman!

Mother Nature didn’t quite get the memo about our big day, serving up some light rain and a side of heavy fog. But did that slow Stephen down? Not a chance! In fact, it provided the perfect real-world demonstration of the bike’s moisture- and corrosion-resistant abilities. While other bikes might worry about a little rust, the igus:bike just kept on rolling through the mist!

Stephen spent the bulk of his D.C. adventure exploring the parks surrounding the White House, the Washington Monument, and the Lincoln Memorial. These are some of the most iconic and recognizable landmarks in the world, and they served as a truly majestic backdrop for our plastic powerhouse. It’s not every day you see revolutionary engineering meeting such historic scenery!

To cap off a day of sightseeing, Stephen enjoyed a final cruise in front of the Smithsonian Institution Building, otherwise known as “The Castle.” As the home of the Smithsonian’s visitor center and administrative offices, it was the perfect regal finish to the day.

With a day of historic sites and gloomy weather officially in the books, it’s time for one last trip back north. We’re heading to the final, most special location of the entire U.S. tour: Rumford, Rhode Island, the home of the igus, Inc. campus! Get ready—the homecoming celebration is just around the corner!

Stephen Bowman has a combined 35 years in construction/industrial sales positions, and has worked at igus® in multiple different positions since 2007. His prior positions include working as a construction specialist in the U.S. Army National Guard for eight years and operating his own construction company for three years.
