Recapping the igus:bike’s Maintenance-Free Western U.S. Adventure

It’s official! The first leg of the igus:bike World Tour across the United States has come to a close. Our incredible riders, Chris Sandven and Philip Pauli, packed up their sunscreen, hit the open road, and put our revolutionary plastic powerhouse—the igus:bike—through a truly unforgettable American adventure!

From the majestic mountains of Colorado to the shining Golden Gate Bridge, this leg was a high-octane mix of customer collaboration, unexpected pit stops, and sightseeing that only the U.S. can deliver.

The Kick-Off: Colorado’s Customer Calling
Our journey started with a mission: proving that polymer is tough enough for the rugged world of U.S. cycling. After securing those essential breakfast burritos, the team rolled straight into Colorado Springs to visit RockShox, a subsidiary of SRAM, where conversations quickly shifted from the igus:bike’s innovative design to revitalizing future projects.

Next, we trekked to Grand Junction, CO, and met with QuikrStuff, the genius behind one of the lightest, toughest bike racks on the market. Their secret weapon? Our own iglide R and Q2 bearings handling the critical pivot points! We love our customers so much, one of our riders, Chris, is literally carrying the igus:bike on his personal QuikrStuff rack—talk about a real-world product test!

Utah: A Spooky Stay and Inspiring Trikes
The adventure continued into Utah, but not without a little drama. After a long drive, the team checked into a hotel only to find themselves facing a cinematic, power-outage-induced darkness—a truly spooky, Shining-esque night they won’t soon forget!

Thankfully, daylight brought an inspiring visit to Triot in Kaysville, where we met founder Martin “Marty” Rasmussen. Triot custom-builds life-changing recumbent trikes for riders with muscle deficiencies and disabilities. These magnificent machines rely on our iglide and igubal 2.0 bearings to resist corrosion from dirt and moisture, ensuring durability and reliability for every user. It’s a perfect example of igus parts making a real difference!

The fun wasn’t over yet! On the way to Vegas, the team scored an impromptu pit stop at the electrifying Red Bull Rampage event in St. George. The sight of the orange igus:bike and the QuikrStuff rack in the parking lot drew a massive crowd, giving us the perfect, organic chance to chat about maintenance-free polymer parts and celebrate our amazing partnerships.

Viva Las Vegas! The Halfway Point
Blinding lights, slot machines, and the glitz of the Strip! Las Vegas marked the approximate halfway point of Chris and Philip’s tour. Amidst checking out the Fountains of Bellagio, the igus:bike stole the show, even earning a photo op with a true Vegas staple: Elvis! A stop at an Area 51-themed attraction ensured the bike picked up some extraterrestrial style before the final push into California.

SoCal Style & The Golden Gate Bridge
Southern California welcomed the team with legendary sunshine and high-octane customer visits. We stopped at Yoshimura Cycling (who use iglide bushings for a silky smooth pedal experience) and DVO Suspension (who put our bushings in their premium rear shocks). A highlight? Hitting the “Lost Boys Bridge” with DVO engineers—thankfully, no vampires were found!

The igus:bike then enjoyed its Hollywood debut, rolling proudly down the Walk of Fame, generating buzz from curious onlookers. The California coastal inspiration came full circle with a chance encounter at Venice Beach, where Chris and Philip ran into an actual igus customer who recognized the classic orange color from his work in machine tools!

The final sprint saw the team visit Praxis Works and ibis Cycles in Santa Cruz, where the “plastic powerhouse” handled a spontaneous ride with a father and son near Seal Rock.

Finally, after miles of road, dozens of meetings, and countless proof-points of polymer reliability, Chris and Philip ended their leg with a triumphant ride through the famous hills of San Francisco, concluding their incredible U.S. tour at the iconic Golden Gate Bridge!

What an adventure! The igus:bike performed flawlessly, proving time and again that our maintenance-free plastic components can handle anything the road, the dirt, or even an Elvis impersonator can throw at them.

Stay tuned for the next stage of the igus:bike U.S. Tour!
