Igus Bike Tour Belgium – Day 5: Discovering Liège’s Heritage and Innovation

Maria Siopi | 18. September 2025

The Igus Bike Tour continued its 60th-anniversary journey with a visit to Liège, a city rich in history, culture, and modern architecture. Day 5 brought us a mix of heritage landmarks, green spaces, and customer connections that perfectly reflect the spirit of our global tour.

We began the day at the Archéoforum, an impressive archaeological site located beneath Place Saint-Lambert in the city center. Here, history comes alive with remains dating back to prehistoric times, the Roman era, and the Middle Ages. It was a fascinating introduction to Liège’s deep cultural roots and the perfect place to start our day.

From there, we cycled uphill to Fort de la Chartreuse, a striking 19th-century fortress hidden in the hills above Liège. Once built for military defense, today the fort stands as a quiet, atmospheric reminder of the city’s past. Covered in ivy and surrounded by nature, it offered a unique glimpse into another chapter of Liège’s history.

Our next stop was Parc de la Boverie, a peaceful green oasis on the banks of the Meuse River. With its landscaped gardens, sculptures, and the La Boverie Museum, the park perfectly blended culture and relaxation. It was the ideal spot to enjoy Liège’s charm and energy.

We then continued to the spectacular Liège-Guillemins train station, designed by world-renowned architect Santiago Calatrava. With its sweeping steel and glass curves, the station is not just a transportation hub but also a symbol of modern design and innovation. Standing beneath its futuristic canopy was a true moment of awe.

In the afternoon, the focus of our journey shifted from landmarks to people as we visited Dekken, one of our valued customers in the textile industry. Meeting the team at Dekken was a highlight of the day, giving us the opportunity to learn more about their work, thank them for their trust in Igus, and celebrate the partnerships that make this anniversary tour so special.

Day 5 in Liège captured exactly what the Igus Bike Tour is all about: connecting the past with the future, exploring culture and innovation, and most importantly, celebrating the people and customers who make our journey possible.
