Polymer ball bearings from igus® in fish processing

Machines and components such as ball bearings used in food processing face enormous challenges. In addition to the use of the most aggressive cleaners, just as much water is used. Germs are counteracted and contamination of the food is prevented. Below you can read more about how a customer in the fish processing industry improved their technology and saved costs at the same time thanks to our polymer ball bearings.
The plant of a customer who processes seafood operates at high temperatures and involves the use of chemicals. For crab processing, he assumed that replacing conventional metal ball bearings every two days was normal. By contacting igus, the customer significantly reduced his maintenance intervals with our xiros polymer ball bearings. After replacement, our ball bearings now run completely flawlessly and maintenance-free for up to six months. The change was not only good for the facilities, but also for the savings. The almost daily maintenance and replacement costs of the metal ball bearings and the extra time gained by the customer are now included in the improvements to the fish processing equipment as budget.
The advantages of our polymer ball bearings at a glance:
- 100% lubrication-free
- High resistance to corrosion and media
- Suitable for temperatures up to +150°C (depending on material)
- FDA-compliant (depending on material)
Furthermore, special parts consisting of a self-aligning spherical bearing housing and a xiros polymer ball bearing are already successfully in use in crab processing. If you want to know more about our special parts, click on this link: https://www.igus.eu/info/special-parts-xiros?L=en
