What specific advantages does the energy chain have over the classical festooning or cable trolley system in an indoor crane? Increased interior range without obstacles. Unexcelled distances under the entire crane girder. Low chain system installation space necessary on the crane. No cables dangling from the crane girder – greater storage space. Small clearance between the hook and the wall. Longer cable service life. Operating and maintenance costs lower than those of festooning or a cable trolley system. Less susceptibility to errors. No components that require regular lubrication.
In 1999 a mile stone was set for igus with the installation of the first igus rol e-chain for a 130m crane travel at a river port in Germany. The integration of roller into the side part of the chain link helped to significantly reduce the coefficient of friction and therefore the energy needed to […]
Since the end of 2015, the new igus P41.80Ri rol e-chain with integrated iglidur plain bearings has been in service on the gigantic EMO B.V. ship-to-shore cranes in Rotterdam, one of the largest bulk cargo handling ports in Western Europe. With a trolley drive of over 100m, a travel speed of up to 4m/sec and over 50kg/m fill weight, it is one of the most demanding energy chain applications in the harbour crane sector.
