For the last tour in week 2, our team was heading to Berlin. The tour started in Bad Saarow on Lake Scharmützelsee, which is located in the south-east of Berlin. From there, it was a 3.5 km flat route to the first stop: Our customer SENSYS Sensorik & Systemtechnologie GmbH. The company offers magnetic and electromagnetic measuring systems and components. Their systems help to detect objects under the ground and are, for example, used in Archaeology or munition detection.
In the afternoon, the team decided to go on a short sightseeing tour through Berlin and visited a few sights of the German capital. The team stopped at the landmark of the city and Berlin’s symbol of reunification: the Brandenburg Gate, which was built in 1791. The Brandenburg Gate is located in the heart of the city and surrounded by a magnicient square, the Pariser Platz. They then headed to the Reichstag, where important political decsions are being made. The Reichstag is one of the city’s most significant historical buildings and its unique glass dome is visible from afar. The tour ended at the East Side Gallery memorial in Berlin-Friedrichshain, an open-air gallery on the longest remaining section of the Berlin Wall. It is 1.3 km long and has been painted by a total of 118 artists from 21 countries who have transformed the wall into a colorful work of art.
Our rider: Arno Lindemann
I’m Arno, 55 years old, and I’ve dedicated the past 26 years to working as a sales representative for igus in the Berlin region. Cycling has always been a passion of mine—I even competed in the Dolomites back in the day. Nowadays, I enjoy playing badminton each week. I also cherish my time outdoors at my farm in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, where I care for a lovely small park and forest. I find great joy in maintaining the land and working with the agricultural equipment involved. Of course, things don’t always go smoothly, and I occasionally have to tackle repairs. But that’s all part of the adventure, and I take pride in getting everything up and running again.
