The multitude of application possibilities with iglidur in seating systems

A modern car seat today is very complex and has experienced enormous technological progress in recent years. More and more electronic adjustment options (e.g. seat height adjustment) have found their way into the mass production applications of car manufacturers by means of actuators.   Thereby the minimisation of noise and weight is a crucial requirement for all modern seating designs. Seating systems should be light, offer maximum comfort  and, at the same time, be safe.   

The expectations of the OEMs in this context are continually increasing. In the case of alternative drives such as the hybrid or electric motor, the noise of the drive is reduced. As a result of which noises inside the vehicle are masked to a much lesser extent by a loud combustion engine.  At the same time, it is becoming quieter and quieter inside motor vehicles.  

Most plastics are characterised by their dampening effect compared to metallic materials . In applications involving severe vibrational stress, a polymer bearing solution helps to reduce noise inside motor vehicles. The  iglidur range of materials developed by igus includes materials that have especially good dampening specifications.

Significant cost savings compared to corresponding metal components make iglidur polymer bearings today’s standard in seating systems for the automotive industry.
